Is tech the solution that will engage our students?
Four years ago, I join a post-graduate program with “innovative” and “educator” in the title. I am desperate to use tech to engage my learners.
To my surprise, the program isn’t about tech. Completely disoriented, I struggle to find my bearings. This is like a foreign country and learning a new language.
The changes in pedagogy today represent a social and cultural revolution. Industrial Age methods that teach discrete separate subjects and treat students alike don’t prepare our youth for life.
Here are some of the changes that are emerging:
- Teachers are guides not experts
- Digital literacy is crucial in a world of information overload Shift education from one size fits all to personalization
- Students are responsible for self-determination
- Apply learning to real world applications
- Differentiate with Technology
- Use Information Technology to design and implement Project Based Learning
- Web 2.0 Tools for the Classroom require students to make and revise and create solutions to real world problems
- Failure is valuable because it is the only way to reach success
- I invite you to join our Community of educators. Let’s partner with each other and our students to participate in Tikkun Olam.
